You’re a business; you send your marketing campaign every month with some really good information. You get a lot of opens, but what happens after your subscribers open the email? If you don’t know the answer to this question then we need to talk.

I have talked a lot about providing good content and how to improve your open rates but what happens after they open the message? Is that it? Mission complete because we got them to open our message and read what we had to say? No, we won’t settle for that. Let’s get them to take the next step and come to our store, website, or social accounts. Let’s call them to take action.

Understanding Call-to Actions

It’s a marketing tip that gets overlooked and underestimated. Giving the user something to do when they are done reading what you have to say or figuring out what you’re all about. Calls-to-action are just as important in email marketing as they are on your website. If you are unfamiliar with what a “Call-to-action” is, it is defined as;

“Words that urge the reader, listener, or viewer of sales promotion message to take an immediate action, such as ‘Write Now,’ ‘Call Now,’ or (on Internet) ‘Click Here.’ A retail advertisement or commercial without a call-to-action is considered incomplete and ineffective”

Examples of Calls-to-Action

Prompting your user to take the next step is very important in converting them from a spectator to a participator in your company. Large buttons or text asking the user to do something relevant to your message may help drive a user to purchase something, sign up for an event, or just give you a call. The Atomic home page has 3 call-to-actions asking users to participate in our services and community.

Examples of good call-to-actions can be as simple as large text prompting a user to click, and as complicated as a brief video-drive internet banner like this Google Adwords Banner.

Next time you are writing content for your email marketing campaign remember to prompt your reader to take action and be part of your community.
