Leap Day only comes around once every 4 years. This year we welcome this extra day with open arms as February has been nothing but spectacular weather (here in North Texas it is apparently Spring already). We hope you can spend this bonus day of 2016 in useful and meaningful ways. Here are some of the ways we intend to spend Leap Day this time around.
Research Political Candidates
If you are a Texas resident with the ability to vote, you should already be well aware of “Super Tuesday”, aka March 1st, when Texans (and those in many other states) can vote to decide who will become our presidential candidates. This year, more than others, it seems that on both the Republican and Democrat sides that neither candidate is a “given”, so it’s important to exercise your right to vote if you are already registered. Now, you may not quite be ready yet to vote tomorrow if you have not yet had the chance to research the candidates. So maybe take a bit of time off Snapchat today and consider spending some time on your “bonus day of February” with a bit of online research.
There are a few ways to do this. First and foremost, visit each candidate’s official website, social media accounts, and if you’re brave look them up on YouTube. Additionally, you can compare candidates on a few nifty websites such as: OnTheIssues.org, Project Vote Smart, and InsideGov. We don’t endorse anything anyone says on any other website, especially when it comes to politics, but it’s a good idea to get your information from a variety of resources for obvious reasons.
Clean out That One Drawer (you know the one I’m talking about)
Ok, you’ve probably realized by now that this “extra” day in February doesn’t actually yield you any “extra” time to do any of these things we’ve recommended. But you can treat this like you do the New Year and more of an inspirational holiday than time off from work, taking care of children, or going to school. I like to think of this as a chance to cross something off your list that you’ve been meaning to get done for ages… like cleaning out that one spot in your house that you do everything in your power to hide from all guests that enter your home.
Just about everyone has that one drawer, cabinet, closet, or maybe even room in their house that needs to be cleaned out. Consider donating the items or maybe even selling them using one of the many, new apps mimicking CraigsList. To donate items, just google for locations near you that accept the items you are looking to offload, there are often drop-boxes, donation centers, and sometimes even organizations that will come to your home to pick up donation items. If you’re looking to sell a few things check out one (or more) of these apps that have been beating us all over the head with advertisements lately: 5miles, Close5, letgo, and Wallapop.
Binge Watch Fuller House
Perhaps you are looking for a less productive or inspirational way to spend your Leap Day… and we have a solution!
No matter where you go or what you do lately, nostalgia seems to be “in”. This trend has become a trend in movies and TV shows including but not limited to: Star Wars, Zoolander, Girl Meets World, Ghostbusters, and countless more that are set to come out this year.
Well, Fuller House joined in on the fun and became available for streaming on Netflix last week. This show is a remake/continuation from the original series Full House from the 90s and includes so many actors and actresses from the original cast (except the Olsen twins). It holds up to the original series and includes a remake of the original theme song by Carly Rae Jepsen.
This promo doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of how truly awesome this show continues to be. As expected, the first few episodes contain quite a bit of “fan service” but the show quickly settles into it’s rhythm and earns
Show Your Devices Some Love
It’s a good idea to check your devices every now-and-again to make sure that they are regularly backing up to external services (iCloud, Google) or external devices (hard drives, online backup services). Hardware can fail and if you damage or lose your device you don’t want to lose all of your documents, photos, and videos along with it. While you’re at it, make sure that all of your devices are up to date so that your software is just as safe as your personal data.
If you need a bit of direction on how to backup your devices, follow these instructions tailored to each device:
